H. Upmann No. 1
Every bundle seems to have 2 or 3 that burn down the middle. I would like to find a better more consistent cigar.

H. Upmann No. 1
This is my favorite Cuban alternative that J&R makes. It has s great draw and a flavor that is not to strong or too mild. I highly recommend it.

H. Upmann No. 1
I'm a one a day guy. Hey, it's not a Montecristo Especial #3, but I can't afford to smoke a Monte EVERY day. I've tried many value priced cigars but like this baby the best. Good draw, good taste and a price I can wrap my budget around. Medium body taste with good amount smoke. Don't be afraid to give this one a shot. I'm not good at identifying flavors like some could, but this one is enjoyable. I scored this bundle in an auction for $1 a stick!

Reviewing JR Cuban Alternative H. Upmann #1
I have smoked many Cubans in my travels. My favorites being Partagas Series D #4, Romeo & Juliet short Churchill, as well as the cheaper Rafael Gonzales, Piedras, etc.
I can't really compare this cigar to the mellow toasty Cuban tobacco, but I can compare to the domestic premiums.
I smoke about 2 cigars a week, more in the warm months. I am partial to Lancero, Lonsedales, and panatelas.
I just smoked my favorite Quesada 1974 lancero, and this cigar the next day. I also haven't aged the Upmanns in my humidor, they are fresh from the truck.
Though the profiles are different, the JR held up well against that, and other cigars in the $8.-$15. range.
Last week I smoked a Tatuaje lancero at over $20. (CA prices) I liked the JR better!
Besides a decent flavor though not very complex, it was well made, not too tight or squishy as cheap cigars tend to be.The draw using a V cut was fine, next I will try a full cut. The cigar held together down to the nub and burned pretty evenly. The ash dropped at about an inch and a half.
Considering all the meh premiums and the horrible "drugstore" cigars, at the price of $24./20 that's less than $2.00 when cheapies like Backwoods at the gas station costs $7.99 for 5 (again, CA ripoff taxes)
These JRs would be a good deal at $5. per stick.
Obviously smoked two without aging, so maybe there will be a few duds, but still a steal.
Again, don't compare to real Cubans but against any cheap bundles and some high priced premiums they hold their own.
