Also, being able to see how much fuel remains is really useful. Triple torch flame is great for lighting or correcting. (and the occasional silver brazing job....). Firebird Clear Afterburner I have bought several more expensive lighters and none have performed as well as this one. Works in my convertible on the interstate. Only one or two times has it failed to light, and when I adjust the base wheel for a larger flame, it then lights. For folks who had problems with it lighting, it could be bad butane. I've used Ronson and Xikar with no problems. I have three of these lighters, one blue and two clear and they all are great. I've had em for 5 or 6 months and all are still going strong. 5 5 1

Firebird Clear Afterburner I bought 3 of these because they take a little more push on the gas valve than others I've used. The others lose fuel from being jostled in my pants pockets: these don't. Recently I found one that didn't want to light even though it had plenty of fuel. I discovered that if I used my left hand there was no problem, It seems just to be a problem with pushing on one side or the other of the igniter. I suggest if someone's lighter doesn't light that they test first the suspect igniter by trying to light another lighter which has been pushed just far enough to start the gas flow. If that works, then try to light the Firebird with the gas flowing using and a flame from another lighter. When I tried this, there was just a wisp of a flame. I drained some fuel from the firebird and tried again and it worked. It was as if there were water in the bottom of the tank. By the way, the fuel adjustment on the bottom is a great improvement over the usual slot which needs a screwdriver. 4 5 1

Additionally, as I am at current an outdoor smoker, I've noticed it performs really well when there's a breeze; gale force winds....not so much. I filled both lighters up with butane . One worked for about 5 lights then no speak. The other didn't't work at all. The customer service rep gave me a credit but was not helpful when I requested to speak to a supervisor to report that JR should not be peddling a poor product. 1 5 1
