Officially opening its doors for business in March of 1971, JR Cigar went from operating a small storefront on 6th Avenue in NYC to becoming a permanent and prominent fixture in the cigar space. Through the company’s incredible relationships with their partners, JR has been able to roll out several successful projects teaming up with an assorted selection of top manufacturers to bring private label cigars, exclusive brands and limited editions. Not only do the projects celebrate their longevity in the business, but they also speak to the impeccable craftmanship and dexterity of their partners. One such project that speaks to this notion is Crafted by JR Cigar, a team up with Aganorsa which takes a more intimate approach to “in-house” blends speaking to their dedication as the blends are unique boasting brands and blends that are truly made “from scratch” unlike the competition. Another, Crafted by JR Crowned Heads scored a 93 rating and was a pairing with brand owner Jon Huber producing a private label and house brand utilizing designated tobaccos and fully developed by the manufacturer. These are just some of the first in what is sure to be a long line of top-shelf brands that are a true collaboration between the JR team and cigar manufacturers.This leads us to JR Revival. Once again, JR Cigar is back with a proud offering to the cigar community. The JR Revival series is celebratory in nature not just commemorating JR’s own successful history but also the immense legacy of the cigar industry. Serving as a snapshot of the evolutionary nature of premium cigars in the industry, it is a limited-edition release where each cigar will be based on a different decade that JR has been present in the industry. Each release will feature a cigar blend that was popular during that time period from a manufacturer that was active during that time to create an authentic experience. The first set release in Summer 2024 is the JR Revival: 70s. In the 1970s, the cigar industry looked very different than it does present day. With the embargo against Cuba in place for just under 10 years, manufacturers and farmers found themselves journeying across Caribbean and Central and South America to find suitable soils and climate for tobacco. This is where the Quesada family comes in. While the family has been a part of the tobacco industry for over a century, it was June of 1974 when Quesada Cigars was set to manufacture in the Dominican Republic. Manufactured at the legendary Quesada factory Manufactura de Tabacos, S.A., the high-end blend features finely aged tobacco and is a dreamy and exquisite smoking experience. Employed as the wrapper is a high quality and silky brown Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf. At the core, a Sumatra binder expertly coils around a blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers. The result is a mellow-medium bodied smoke emanating about an hour of smooth and creamy nutty notes. Formatted in a Toro 6x52, 10 beautiful sticks are housed in a pristine white box that’s pretty rad featuring a Panton curve themed artwork in multiple tones of a retro orange reminiscent of 70s. And though the 70s was known as the "Me Decade" and saw the height of the streaking craze, the cigars do not follow suit as the 70s theme is carried through to the bands donning all ten sticks.
