The HVC Hot Cake Fresh Out the Oven Broadleaf has arrived in two spectacular limited-edition cigars: the elegant Corona Gigantes and the bold Gran Torpedo. They’re the latest evolution in Reinier Lorenzo’s quest for a wallet-friendly but premium experience. Reinier Lorenzo, the creator of HVC, has one of those life stories that makes you realize how passion can completely change someone’s path. Born in Cuba in 1985, he grew up on a Havana farm and became a veterinarian before moving to Miami in 2008. For seven years, he worked at a lab in Wisconsin while his cigar dreams took shape. His family’s connection to Eduardo Fernandez... of Aganorsa proved life-changing when he was invited to a trip to Nicaragua. There he saw the entire cigar-making process from field to finished product. By 2011, Lorenzo couldn’t ignore his calling anymore. He founded HVC while still working his lab job, personally driving throughout the Midwest selling his cigars until success finally allowed him to focus entirely on his true passion. His mission remained consistent: combine Cuban cigar-making traditions with Nicaraguan fillers to create exceptional cigars that don’t require a second mortgage to enjoy. Today, his creations appear in over 300 stores nationwide. The newly released Hot Cake line that’s making waves tells its own story of growth and evolution. It began when the “Pan Caliente” released in 2016. This transformed into the regular production of Hot Cake with the famous San Andres wrapper in 2020, expanded with the Golden Hot Cake using an Ecuador Connecticut wrapper in 2023. Now, this path continues with the newly released Broadleaf editions that showcase Lorenzo’s growing mastery of his craft. Each cigar is meticulously crafted at Lorenzo’s Fabrica de Tabacos HVC S.A. factory in Nicaragua. The Connecticut USA Broadleaf wrapper is important because it delivers something different from typical Broadleaf wrapped cigars. Instead of being overwhelmingly earthy and sweet, this wrapper offers greater complexity and balance. The Nicaraguan binder and fillers from both Esteli and Jalapa regions create a medium-full profile with genuine character without the unnecessary intensity. The flavor journey is truly worth experiencing. The initial draw reveals a mixture of coffee and dark chocolate with notes of baking spices. The cinnamon stands out alongside a warming ginger-like quality. As you progress, leather elements develop with just enough earth to provide structure without dominating. The final third transitions toward mocha with subtle pepper notes. Even people who don’t normally notice flavor transitions will recognize these changes because they’re remarkably clear. Their initial launch of the Hot Cakes line was released in 2024. Now, they’re introducing two new cigar formats; the Broadleaf Corona Gigantes 6.87x50 and the Broadleaf Gran Torpedo 5.50x56. The Corona Gigantes provides an extended savory experience where flavors develop gradually, while the Gran Torpedo offers a slightly more concentrated profile thanks to its tapered head. Both contain identical fillers but express the blend differently based on their shapes. Production is deliberately limited to 350 boxes of each size, with each containing 25 cigars. This controlled approach ensures every cigar meets Lorenzo’s standards while creating a sense of occasion without artificial scarcity. There’s a reason Lorenzo is considered the “man of the people.” The HVC Hot Cake Fresh Out the Oven Broadleaf is a byproduct of Lorenzo paying attention to price while over-delivering in the experience department. This is the perfect entry way into premium cigars without the hefty price tag. Given their limited availability, interested newcomers or seasoned aficionados should act before these products disappear from shelves.
