Michael Herklots, the co-founder of Ferio Tego, described his Timeless Sterling line as both “dense and intense.” A resurrection of sorts, Ferio Tego brought the Sterling line back to life after the cigar was discontinued. The initial 2011 release was a statement by the new Ferio Tego company, comprised of Nat Sherman ex-pats bent on crafting a new legacy brand of their own. Sterling is, at first glance, a beautiful cigar. Dressed in a platinum silver band, the box flips open to reveal 10 perfectly handrolled cigars underneath the bold inner-lid artwork which looks like lettering out of a Salvador Dali painting. Diving deeper, one finds a truly remarkable blend of aged tobacco that produces a refined and mature flavor profile. The Sterling is an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper coiled around Dominican binder and Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers. Some of the filler tobacco has been aged for more than a decade, which helps the tobacco perfectly accent the sweetness of the Connecticut style wrapper. This is a medium-bodied cigar, which allows for all-day smoking, but the cigar maintains a complexity more akin to fuller-bodied, after-dinner style smokes. The flavor profile is one of roasted peanuts and zesty white pepper. The tandem is cradled underneath a lasting buttery and creamy taste which makes the smoke an ideal pairing alongside a fuller-bodied white wine, such as a Riesling, or a rum that will further bring out the sweet notes packed inside the cigar. There is a very pleasant aromatic component to this cigar as well and will delight anyone who happens to find themselves within the smoker’s orbit. The Quesada family in the Dominican Republic produces these smokes, which are available in several different sizes which slightly alter the delivery of these premium, high-end flavors. Shop JR today and grab one of these 10-count boxes with the knowledge that the Timeless collection is not some misnomer. This is a blend that has stood the test of time and will continue to age beautifully in your humidor. The only problem? Timeless tends to sell quickly, so don’t run out of time!
