With so much of the cigar world focused on hotspots like Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic, it’s critical to include some CAO brand in your humidor’s portfolio as the General Cigar Co. star is incredibly skilled at taking some underutilized growth regions and making those leaves the star of their portfolio. That was true of CAO’s line of Brazilian wrapped cigars and is true now with the advent of the FASA Sol, a delicious and moderately-priced smoke that the company’s top blendmasters say is a homage to the heritage and tobacco of Honduras. This line from CAO is incredibly fascinating because Sol (Day) is just one half of the release. There is a Noche (night) cigar that features the same binder and filler but with a different wrapper. Ed Lahmann, Senior Brand Manager at CAO, told Cigar Aficionado that “CAO FASA Sol and CAO FASA Noche could not be more alike, yet they could not be more different. They’re literally like night and day.” The cigar’s strengths are listed as medium-bodied, though the company urges consumers to give both a chance and decide for themselves which one is stronger. The Sol features a binder from Cameroon and fillers from the Dominican Republic and three separate regions of Nicaragua—Jalapa, Estelí and Condega. The wrapper, which has a handsome, brown, milk chocolate color, is a rarely used but especially tasty Honduran Olancho San Agustin wrapper. The strategic utilization of this wrapper gives this cigar a tasting profile of Ceylon cinnamon and toasty almond. According to the house experts at CAO, it’s best paired with a Kentucky style bourbon, a Nicaraguan rum—Flor de Caña, for example, makes some of the finest rums in the world—or a café cortado, which is a delicious combination of espresso and steamed milk. While CAO’s goal is to have you enjoy Sol during the day and Noche after dinner, the truth is that Sol is beautifully complex and perfect for any occasion. Because it pairs well with both sharp and spicy coffees and zestier, heavy-hitting bourbons, the Sol is versatile. Shop JR Cigar today for the entire CAO collection but pay special attention to this exciting new release. As always, these cigars will be available at a price you won’t believe and alongside our world class expertise.
