Nodal’s passion for cigarmaking is infectious. Born and raised in Cuba, Nodal left the island as a teenager on a shrimping boat bound for Miami along with hundreds of others fleeing the island. A journey that normally takes 12 hours took Nodal and his family four days across treacherous seas, making their eventual arrival into Miami all the more anticipated. A classical musician by trade, Nodal stepped into the finance business and the mental health industry before starting a website that sold smaller boutique cigars. Nodal’s early work in the cigar business was one underlined by his eagerness to take chances. For example, he was one of the first cigarmakers to experiment with large ring gauges that were marketed specifically for new smokers. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, his determination began to pay dividends, especially when he came to the realization that cigars cannot be made to please everyone.
